No Charge vs Included Storage

Since different markets and projects account for storage revenue in different ways, Spark has two options for storage units that are included in the unit’s purchase.

All pre-allocated storage units are considered included with the purchase of a unit. For maximum versatility, Spark’s storage settings permit revenue reporting to be based on either additional storage units sold or all storage revenue, whether or not it is included in the purchase.

A No Charge storage unit is considered “free” or included in the purchase price and marking storage as No Charge effectively zeroes out the price of the storage unit without having to add a discount. In terms of reporting, storage units marked No Charge do not impact the total storage revenue or discounts.

An Included storage unit is also included in the purchase price, but the price of the storage unit is not zeroed out.

Designating Pre-Allocated Storage as No Charge

If your project does not count the price of included storage in revenue reporting, you can set these storage units to be designated as No Charge by default. Navigate to Settings → Contracts and select the General tab.

In the Storage Unit Revenue section, use the checkbox to select “pre-allocated storage units are no-charge” and click Update to save the change.

For maximum flexibility, additional storage units can also be designated as No Charge on a one-off basis on individual contracts - see Managing Storage on a Contract for more details
